As well as allowing light into your property, windows need to be secure and energy-efficient to perform as intended. Given how visible windows are on both the inside and outside of your home, making sure they fit the bill cannot be underestimated.

Your House Is Always Cold
One of the biggest flaws with old windows is that they aren’t thermally efficient. This means they don’t keep the heat in during the winter, increasing your energy bills in the process.
The energy efficiency of windows is known as a U-Value. Modern windows are required to have a U-Value of 1.6Wm2K or less, or a minimum C-level energy rating.
Single-glazing or poor-performing double-glazing will most certainly create draughts in a room. The only way this can be addressed is by removing the old windows and replacing them with new windows.
Due to modern standards, any new windows you have installed will automatically offer superior thermal efficiency.
Your Windows Get Condensation On The Inside
Condensation between the two panes of glass is a sure sign your windows are poorly performing. Specifically, this problem relates to the sealing around the edge of your windows which when working properly, keeps moisture out. But if your windows are old or were installed incorrectly, this seal may break down. The result is walls of condensation you cannot access to clean. Instead, your windows look permanently dirty.
You may also have condensation on the inside of your window, which can be very frustrating to constantly have to mop up. As well as contributing towards dampness and mould, condensation can even damage the windowsill or wallpaper. A replacement of the glass or better still the window is required to rectify the issue.
Your Windows Don’t Feel Secure
Single glazing is a burglar’s dream. Likewise, faulty locks are practically a gateway for thieves. Even with CCTV installed, if your property is easy to break into it’s more likely to be targeted.
New windows will use the latest locking systems. You can also choose to reposition or resize windows if you are concerned the current placement isn’t very secure.
Either way, if you’ve been broken into before or are worried about the safety of your property, don’t delay in taking action.
You Don’t Know The Last Time Your Windows Were Changed
The lifespan of uPVC windows ranges between 10 and 30 years, and up to 60 years for wooden windows (though they may disintegrate much faster if they aren’t treated correctly).
Here’s the thing though. If the windows were installed before you moved in, how are you to know if they are well past their sell-by date or not? Sometimes it may tell you on the property survey you need to get a mortgage, but often property owners are left in the dark.
Windows that are at the end of their life will suffer from many of the issues we’ve mentioned above. So they could be costing you additional money in energy bills without you even realising! Plus, your home might not be as secure as you think either.
You’re Ready For Something New
Let’s face it, window design has come a long way since the 80s double glazing boom. These days, it’s possible to create an amazing design statement with your windows.
For example, large focal windows capture a view and let natural light flood into your rooms. Or even aluminium windows that can be customised to any shape or colour.
